How to create a website as an affiliate

Welcome to the third part of the AWE Webmaster Tutorial. After picking the product to promote, we are going to explore the opportunities of building your own site.

Building a website can be easy or complex, depending on the ideas and skills you have. A modern website template allows users to create and manage a site without the need of any programming knowledge. If you have no programming knowledge (and you don't feel comfortable to learn) and/or no budget to hire someone, then the best way to go is to use a free website or blogging platform. They provide you with everything you need to start your online business. Not only can you create a website that you can completely manage yourself, but those platforms also provide templates and styling files combined into themes that allow you to give the website the look and feel you like. Additionally, many of these platforms also offer plugins and add-ons to provide more specific functionalities to the site.

First of all, give a good consideration again to what your goals are and what resources you have. Below you will find two basic yet very popular site types that are easy to set up and manage in the long run, but different efforts and tasks are required to create either of them.

What you need to think over:

  • How the contents will be displayed
  • What site structure and menu items you want
  • How you can present or promote your site
  • What the extra usability attributes or features you want to offer your customers
  • Which site involves hosting fees, platforms to purchase and other costs and in comparison, which can be created free

Evaluating these factors will lead you to decide what sort of site you would like to have as your own and what product of ours you should promote.

1. Keyword and competition research

If you want to create a website where you are going to do SEO to gain search engine traffic, you need to plan it in advance, otherwise all your efforts may be in vain. If you build your idea around a keyword that has a lot of competition, you may never get a good ranking, or it would take way more effort to achieve the same success as with a keyword that has low or no competition.
The following paragraph is a brief summary meant to help you find the right keyword and analyze your competition. To read more details, go to https://www.nichepursuits.com/nsp-update-1-finding-the-right-keyword-to-target/

Find the right keyword

First, think of keywords (either comprising of one word or long tail keywords), that you think fit your niche. Have a look around websites similar to what you wish to build, visit forums, Google Trends, Wikipedia, view online ads, or ask someone who may have more knowledge in the subject of your planned website. You can use keyword research tools to generate more of the like, for example: https://serps.com/tools/keyword-research/
This will give you a couple of keywords that web surfers actually use and search for. The next step is to find which one to focus on. It should have just enough searches (thousands of exact matches per month, preferably from the USA), but weak competition. It is more important to find a keyword where the top search results are easy to outrank, than to find one where there is less competition, but the top search results are hard to beat. With this we have arrived to the step of analyzing the competition.

Analyzing the competition

Google your keyword, then look at the results on the first page, to determine whether they are difficult to outrank or not. Look for weak spots. If at least a few of those results are easy to outrank, it means that you can get on the first page with the right amount of effort. If you manage to take one of the spots on the first page in Google, it doesn't matter much how competitive the rest of the results are.

  • Some of the factors determining the relevancy of the competition:
  • Is the keyword in the content on the landing page?
  • Is the keyword used in the site title?
  • Is the entire site about the keyword, or does the page just happen to mention it?
  • What is the Google PageRank?
  • Is the ranking page a root domain or a subpage?
  • Is it a weak type of site like article directories, forums, social sites or other user generated sites?

Please find a more detailed explanation here: https://www.nichepursuits.com/how-to-analyze-the-top-10-google-competition-for-your-keyword/

If you have researched the results and they look promising, by all means go ahead and use that keyword. Make sure you don't forget to use it effectively, in order to become a tough competition for others who may want to outrank you later.

2.1 Blog

A blog is the most versatile tool to keep your audience entertained and attached to your product, plus it's very easy to create. You can post industry news, interviews with featured performers, galleries, videos, site or model reviews, to sum it up, you can promote everything with textual and visual content and add a link or any kinds of flashy promo tools to your whitelabel or the LiveJasmin site you are promoting in the first place.

Create
The most recommended platforms for a blog are WordPress and blogging platforms that have all the necessary tools. Below, in the Create / build your site section you will find our recommendations listed.

Get content
You can get content from adult sponsors, as they have lots of promotional materials and promo tools allowed for free usage. You can promote your own performers with introductions, reviews and promotions or you can write and post images of the LiveJasmin models as well. Creating your own content also means providing more original content to your users. It is essential that your site offers something unique and useful for your audience, so making a business plan or blueprint of your site in advance can help you in many ways.

SEO POV
Textual content is always welcome and appreciated by search engines so you can easily get hold of organic traffic if you provide unique content. Not only that: you get user trust, user retention and a better inclination to buy by producing your own great quality writing.

2.2 Adult picture site

An adult picture site (image board, TGP, pic dump) hosts hundreds or even thousands images. It is actually a great way to drive traffic to an actual paysite. As it most commonly targets users who are searching a certain niche, you need to target several niches yourself or focus on one - it's up to you.

Textual content is not really relevant (find out more in the SEO POV section below), although users searching with a certain purpose will search for key words, especially in the case of niches, so certain titles and descriptions will be necessary, but picture sites are popular because they are easyon the eye in more ways than one, meaning they provide merely visual content as opposed to blogs that offer textual reviews and recommendations of models complete with videos, images, even the profile page of the models.

Create
You get plenty of help online to set up your own adult picture site. Check out these sites that offer automated scripts to set out: Mechbunny, Smart Scripts, Script Pulse, Really Simple TGP, TGP Feeder, Comus Thumbs, Tom's Newbie Booster, How to start a TGP, just to mention a few. Take a look at The Porn Dude's yet another massive comprehensive collection of the best adult picture sites for future reference and best practices of how an outstanding adult picture site is built and structured for optimal result: https://theporndude.com/best-porn-tgp-sites

Get content
As in the case of blogs, contact sponsors and soon we will be able to provide you with model content and images for your use.

The images need to be of high quality, and they should be of the exact niche or supporting the exact product you are promoting (in other words: if you promote a gay site, don't post pixelated photos of girl models). You can, for example, post images of preferred models.

Get hosting
Looking for the best hosting solutions for your adult picture site? In addition to many of the script providers actually offering hosting as well, check out these ones listed on the Porn Dude's relevant page.

SEO POV
Although picture sites are not usually optimized for search engines, you can add titles, descriptions and file names to the images, and use friendly URLs. Read more about relevant SEO tips here.

Create / build your site

You can actually try to build your own site as both free and purchasable platforms are very easy to handle. First we will take a look at the free platforms, then the ones you can purchase, which come with a comprehensive tutorial, basically leading you step-by-step on the way of building your site.

Free platforms
These are the most usable platforms we can recommend according to our research. Other platforms can place restrictions on either adult or affiliate content or are simply not adaptable for the creation of a decent adult-themed blog or gallery site.

  • Tumblr - RECOMMENDED FOR: Blog and adult picture site
This service is designed for basic blogs, but it's also very suitable for images and text. There is limited room for customization of the themes, but if you don’t need that, this might be perfect for you. It’s easy to set up and to get going: choose a theme to have your own look - and that is where the customization is about to end. In many ways, it's more like Twitter and Facebook, used and adapted mainly for social purposes, however, provides a quick solution if you need a blog and don't have the resources or the need to create your tailor-made site.
    Pro: adult content is welcome.
Con: be careful not to be pushy with affiliate content. Although plenty of posts with #affiliate hashtag are published, Tumblr's guidelines warn users not to be spammy.
  • WordPress.org - RECOMMENDED FOR: Blog and adult picture site
It is customizable in every possible way with endless amount of plugins and widgets that allow for adding literally hundreds of features that even require very little programming skills with excellent tutorials to match. Any customization, mind you, is expected from your side to be implemented. Make sure you double check the links that you placed on your sites as some plugins may break them.
WordPress is the most used content management system for websites. It started as a platform for blogs, but is has evolved way beyond that. Now big sites with a lot of traffic are running on WordPress as it is very powerful out-of-the-box and allows for a fair amount of customization. Not only are there thousands of themes available, but there are plugins you can select to enhance your site with specific functionality. And all without any programming. Please note though that WordPress.org only allows adult affiliate marketing activities if you get third party hosting for your site.

The downside is that most of these free platforms have ads placed on your site and you have to pay a fee to have them removed. If you have your own hosting taken care of, then of course you will not be bothered with ads. If you're willing to put a little bit more effort into this, then hosting a WordPress site is a very good alternative. This will give you a lot of additional flexibility, both in functionality (with plugins) and in design (with themes). Many hosting providers have the one-click WordPress installation option in their platforms, so there's no technical knowledge required for this step.

Products / Services to purchase
While free platforms have the obvious advantage of not having to spend money, their functionality is very limited. The following products or services offer integral solutions for building websites so if you need more complex implementation of your business goals, try one of these.

Consult online guides

Hire a professional
If building your own site seems to be consuming too much time for you or you would not like to learn all the skills required for this task, hire people who are already professionals. Search for webdesigners, sitebuilders, PHP and frontend developers and you will often stumble upon small companies as well that offer the complete package of creating a website. This is the safest solution, because all you need to do is brief them about your demands and negotiate a nice price.

Design
If you have a special plan in mind, feel free to create your own layout to give a personal touch to your site, but we suggest that you browse through the following lists to study what a successful TGP / tube site / blog / paysite looks like:

Useful step-by-step tips for beginners

  • choose a good domain name, relevant to your site / niche
  • get hosting
  • consult other sites or designers to decide on your page's layout and make it as unique, recognizable and relevant to your business as possible
  • have the features and functions of your website tested with independent testers who are not familiar with your product - they will go through your site as a customer would do

The next chapter will help you optimize your affiliate website by getting a better click through rate, getting more traffic, and many more options.
